Established in 1991, Rositas commenced manufacturing Corn Chips, Corn Tortillas & Taco Shells primarily for the fast food & food service sectors. In the early years, Rositas concentrated on supplying the Mexican restaurant and take away markets. This was attributed to the Directors of Rositas having a strong restaurant background and a focus of producing a product that was superior in quality and purposely designed to be used in these sectors.

With the Mexican restaurant trade experiencing a boom period in the mid 90’s Rositas was poised to capture this market. During this period, Rositas built itself to be the supplier of choice to the National Food Service distribution network with the Corn Chip usage expanding throughout the Food Service sector and outside the traditional Mexican outlets.

In 1998 Rositas expanded its product portfolio and commenced production of Flour Tortilla Wraps. Again primarily focusing on the Food Service market and leveraging off existing distribution networks and supplying a quality product, Rositas was able to ultimately capture this market and developed itself as a niche supplier of these products.

During the early 2000’s, Rositas commenced supply to major QSR outlets and furthermore introduced its range into the New Zealand and South African markets. During 2001 Rositas made the step and entered the Retail market with a range of lines for the Mexican sector. Through manufacturing a quality product, Rositas gathered a loyal base of customers in the Retail sector and further cemented itself as a major Australian manufacturer.

With further expansion of capacity in the Flour Tortilla production, Rositas secured contracts for the supply of housebrand/private label products for the retail sector and fast earned a name of also being a private label manufacturer for many other companies.

With brand exposure increasing through Retail and with a strong Food Service presence, success continued on and Gruma SA de CV acquired Rositas in January 2006. This was a perfect combination for Rositas to have Gruma, the world’s largest Corn Milling and Flour Tortilla producer, purchase Rositas and continue the success story. Gruma SA de CV also purchased Oz Mex Foods in Melbourne in March 2006. Oz Mex Foods was a specialist supplier of housebrand products specifically targeted at the Mexican section of the retail sector.

Combining Rositas and Oz Mex and with Gruma SA de CV’s world wide experience, Gruma SA de CV was able to quickly establish a solid customer base. Moving forward Gruma is now poised to take the Corn Chip and Flour Tortilla market to new levels in the Australia and greater Oceania region.
